Official Statement on the Earthquake in Morocco by The Australian Association of Women Judges (AAWJ)
On behalf of the Australian Association of Women Judges (AAWJ), I express my deep sorrow about the devastating earthquake in Morocco.
In May this year, our Moroccan colleagues, the Union of Moroccan Women Judges (IFJM), hosted the Biennial conference of the International Association of Women Judges in Marrakesh. The delegates, who included many members of the AAWJ, experienced first-hand the beauty of that city, and the generosity of our hosts.
Members of the AAWJ have expressed their concern for their colleagues and asked how they can assist. We have word from the UFJM that their members are safe. There has been media coverage about the international effort to assist, and some delays in agencies being authorised to assist. Our advice is to make donations to the Moroccan Red Crescent, part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Here is an article about their response to date and a link to donate link. https://www.ifrc.org/article/morocco-earthquake-ifrc-and-moroccan-red-crescent-response-date
